If You Liked Ready Player One, Check Out These Other Ernest Cline Novels

Ready Player One was a smash hit for sci-fi novelist Ernest Cline and if you liked his futuristic novel about online gaming with a heavy 80s influence, check out these books by the same author

Armada

Touching on many of the themes from Ready Player One, Armada is about a high school kid who had a particular talent for computer games. The Armada of the title is the name of the game in which Zack Lightman is a star. As one of the top players, Zack knows everything there is to know about the combat flight simulation game which sees the Earth Defense Alliance defend the planet from an alien invasion.

However, Zack soon discovers that it isn’t a game he’s been playing all these years, but a training simulator. Soon, all his training will lead him to a real-life scenario where he will need to co-ordinate an online team from around the world to combat a real alien invasion.

Ready Player Two

Released in November 2020, this long-awaited follow-up to Ready Player One picks up where the last book left off. Wade Watts has just been successful in the challenge set by James Halliday, the late creator of the OASIS system. Wade then finds out about more of the work Halliday had been doing before his death, including a new system he had developed called ONI, but never released to the public.

ONI further blurred the lines between real life and the simulated existence of the OASIS, allowing users to experience the virtual world with all five senses. Wade is hooked and wants to release it to the world and seeks the advice of the rest of the High Five. However, they aren’t all in agreement with some of them seeing the dangers the ONI presents. This leads to conflict and forces Wade to make some life-altering decisions.
